It’s been a fruitful fall, with NDOW’s wildlife education program giving presentations at Walnut Recreation Center, Rhodes Ranch, Red Rock, Griffith Elementary, and Girl Scouts, and appearing at the World of Girls, Henderson Trails Day, Gold Butte Days, and Nevadaween.

A message from our Aquatic Education program coordinator, Ivy Santee: The Trout in the Classroom teacher workshop will be held Saturday, January 12, 2013 at the NDOW office. PDE credit and equipment provided. Please, only 4th – 6th grade teachers who can commit to raising trout in a classroom aquarium should sign up for this one. NDOW will be co-hosting a Flying Wild (all things birds) educator workshop with Nevada Audubon on Saturday, January 26, 2013. There’s a chance to learn about the desert tortoise curriculum at the Math and Science Conference in Las Vegas, January 18 & 19, 2013. This is a new curriculum aimed at schools with desert tortoise habitat, with NDOW and Tortoise Group as partners.

 

NDOW’s National Archery in the Schools tournament will be held February 7, 2013. PE teachers who have implemented this program in their school are eligible to participate. “Virtual” shoots are available. Finally, hope to see you at the International Sportsmen’s Expo, to be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center, February 28 through March 3. NDOW will be hosting the “Kids’ Camp” again at their booth. Bring the kids to learn about wildlife & boating. They can even catch a fish and tie their own fly. Every kid who can pass the state animals quiz gets a free t-shirt to decorate!
